A crypto wallet AML check (Anti-Money Laundering check) is a risk analysis of an address based on the history of all its transactions. In 2026, this is no longer a “paranoid option” but a standard step before sending large amounts to an exchange or other regulated service.
What an AML check shows
Scoring services (Chainalysis, AMLBot, GetBlock, Elliptic, Crystal Blockchain) analyze all transactions of an address and evaluate links with suspicious sources:
- Darknet markets
- Mixers (Tornado Cash, ChipMixer)
- Sanctioned addresses (OFAC, EU sanctions list)
- Scam wallets (Ponzi schemes, phishing, ransomware)
- Stolen funds (exchange and DeFi hacks)
- Gambling sites — in some jurisdictions classified as high risk
Result — a score from 0 to 100 (or percent): 0-25 clean, 25-50 medium risk, 50-75 high, 75+ critical.
Why this matters
The main reason — protection against exchange freezes. Exchanges check incoming transactions through the same AML providers. If funds arrive from an address with a poor score, the deposit may be blocked, the account restricted, in worst cases funds confiscated.
If you’ve held crypto for a long time, many of your funds may have passed through questionable addresses — even without your knowledge. An AML check BEFORE sending lets you know the risk in advance.
How to do an AML check
- Open an AML check service. On CryptoChicken: check page
- Paste the wallet address. BTC, ETH/ERC20 tokens, Tron/TRC20, LTC, and more are supported
- Pay for the check. Market price is $3-10 per check (we charge 5 USDT)
- Get the report in 1-3 minutes. The report contains: overall risk score, breakdown by source category, recommendations
What to do if risk is high
Don’t send funds directly to an exchange. Options:
- “Cleanup” via exchange — conversion to another crypto through a regulated intermediary. Output funds get an AML-clean rating (since they come from the exchange pool)
- Storage in your own wallet until source of risk is clarified
- Using a service with built-in AML cleansing (like our wallet) — all withdrawals come from the exchange pool, always clean
